Lenten Sacrifice

The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence in the United States. The obligation of abstinence (refraining from eating meat) begins at the age of 14. The law of fasting (limiting oneself to one full meal and two lighter meals) obliges all between the ages of 18 and 59. No one should consider this obligation lightly. Those individuals who have a medical condition in which fasting may be considered harmful are not obliged to fast, but should perform some other act of penance or charity.

Lenten Schedule

Mothers in Need Drive

During the Lenten season, your Canonsburg Knights of Columbus Council #3291 is partnering with Catholic Charities' Washington County office to collect much needed baby items to support local mothers who have chosen life over abortion.

Many of these women may otherwise have chosen abortion because of their financial situation, pressure from their family and friends, or simply because they were unaware that there was help for individuals in their situation.

Beginning Wednesday, February 17th thru Friday, April 4th, you will find a number of collection bins in our vestibules for donations.

Items needed include:

Formula (both powdered and liquid such as Similac)

Baby food (all brands and stages)

Baby Hygiene Products (Baby Shampoo, Baby Wash, Q-Tips, Diaper Wipes,

Rash Ointment)

Diapers (All sizes of Huggies, Pampers, Luvs, etc.).

These mothers made the right choice by choosing life. Let’s show them now that they are not alone, and that we care.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Maria Costantino for winning the St. Patrick School Spelling Bee. Maria will now compete at the state level at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Good Luck Maria!

Educational Insight

Our Pastoral Council Education Committee will be placing informative thoughts into our bulletin throughout Lent, to develop a deeper understanding of some of our Catholic practices and rich traditions. Anyone who would like to submit a question or topic to our committee may drop it into the offertory basket on Sunday or email at Education Committee

Cemetery Cleanup

St. Patrick Cemetery will be made ready for the spring and Easter holiday during the month of March. Please remember to clean all the decorations off of your loved one’s grave(s) before March 7th, so that they are not disposed of. Thanks for your help and cooperation.

Lenten Meditations

Invigorate your soul with music and refresh your spirit as the Village Singers of the TriCounty Choir Institute present: “Lenten Meditations,” a choral concert with inspiring Lenten reflections which will be presented here at St. Patrick on Sunday, March 21st at 2:30 p.m.

It is a free concert open to all. A good will offering will be taken.

A beautiful way to reflect on the passion of our Lord during this Lenten season is by attending one of these concerts.

Catholic Youth Ministry

Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) Sports League is a program which seeks to gather young people for athletic competition so that Gospel values may be witnessed. The program is sponsored by the Diocese of Pittsburgh Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry. We are searching for a coach for our Co-ed Softball Team here at St. Patrick’s so that our teens can participate in this program. (Any high school youth, Catholic or non-Catholic, who does not currently play for their high school team is encouraged to play for their parish.)

Our focus is not on winning at all costs, but on doing our best, improving our skills, and practicing the values of our faith. If you enjoy softball and working with teens, please call Nicole at the Youth Ministry office (724.745.3140) or email: youth@stpatrickparish.net
