St. Patrick Parish
Pastoral Council
New members for the Saint Patrick Parish
Pastoral Council are being sought for the second Pastoral
Council. The Council serves as an advisory and
consultative body to assist the pastor in the administration of
parish affairs, promote communication between the laity and the
clergy and provide guidance to the members of the parish.
Ten new members will be selected by lottery to serve a four year
term. We are asking that interested parishioners submit a
nomination for themselves or for people they feel would be an
asset to the parish. Please put the following form in the
collection basket or drop in the rectory mailbox.
Additional forms can be found in the church vestibules.
Nominations will be accepted through October 12th. |

Statement by Bishop
David A. Zubik
Statement by Bishop David A. Zubik on “Meet
the Press” comments by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: On Sunday,
August 24, on “Meet the Press,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
stepped out of her political role and completely misrepresented
the teaching of the Catholic Church in regard to abortion.
She said that Church teaching condemning procured abortion is
somehow new and therefore unsettled.
She could not have been more wrong. Jesus proclaimed the
sacredness of human life throughout his teaching and ministry.
In a Roman world where abortion was commonplace, the Church
proclaimed its intrinsic moral evil. The Didache, perhaps
the earliest known Christian manual of moral teaching dating
from the first century, rejected abortion. Early Church
councils considered it one of the most serious crimes.
That teaching has remained constant and unaltered for two
millennia.
As the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith re-stated in
1974, “The first right of the human person is life...it does not
belong to society, nor does it belong to public authority in any
form to recognize this right for some and not for others...From
the time the ovum is fertilized, a life is begun which is
neither that of the father nor of the mother; it is rather the
life of a new human being…”
The teaching of the Church on abortion is settled. And as old as
the Gospels. |

From the Pastor's
Desk MASS SCHEDULE NEWS: All Masses at St. Genevieve (8:00
a.m.) and the
Wednesday 7:00 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick will not take place
until a new Parochial Vicar is assigned to the Parish.
Mass
intentions scheduled at St. Genevieve (8:00 a.m.) and
Wednesdays, at St. Patrick 7:00 a.m. must be rescheduled until
our new parochial vicar is assigned. This will be
accomplished on a week to week basis, as the parish office
contacts your family to see which choice that you prefer, by
reassigning your mass intention to any one of these three
options:
1. A mass celebrated at a nursing home.
2. The same day at 7:00 a.m. at St. Patrick in the year 2009 -
giving your family first choice of the 2009 year calendar.
3. Fr. Gabriel (if he is available on that date) to celebrate
simultaneously at the mass already scheduled at St. Patrick.
In addition, in order to accomplish the above, masses for the
2009 calendar year will not be scheduled until we receive our
new parochial vicar. Your family mass request envelope was
included in the September envelope mailing. Your request
may be submitted by dropping it in the collection basket or in
the drop off box at the rectory. They will be scheduled at
a later date in the order received. Please include a
self-addressed, stamped envelope for notification purposes.
Thank you. |
